I am Now a Blogger Blogger
March 11, 2009
I’ve moved my blog over to Google’s Blogger since I am told WordPress is banned in China. I’ll eventually delete this site. Please come check it out at http://chitchatchinese.blogspot.com/

blogspot, wordpress, livejournal and many other blog sites are regularly turned on and off, depending on the direction of the wind, and the whim of the net nanny. I wouldn’t try running around to find the site which is up at any one time as you’ll be changing your blog weekly at that rate.

Hmmm, now you are making me think I should go back to WordPress. Thanks for the advice. I might just do that. Blogspot is a pain for certain functions, and I have now had the blog here for 7 months. Anyway, I appreciate the input, and just may flip flop back. Xie!

Hi there, I know this is an old post but I just wanted to let you know that your probably better off hosting your own blog as China is now blocking both blogger and wordpress. I’ve had to do that with a couple of my blogs already. There are some good tutorials from migrating blogs so as not to lose SEO value that I could link u too if you like. All the best! -David

Hey David,
That would be great if you could send me that link. I’ve been reading in the papers here that China is clamping down on internet access. Thanks for letting me know!

Hi Rachel,
. P.S.-I’m setting up a site with the goal of being the “authoratative resource” for learning Chinese in and around the Shenzhen area – I’m sure I’ll be including a link to your site with a lengthy (praise filled) synopsis. Thanks for the hard work! I’m only a year into the learning process myself!
here is the link:

To be honest with you I ended up skipping some steps here because I do most of my work off a couple systems (both of which are WinXP SP3) and there are some issues with setting up a local server to create a “dummy” wordpress blog which you then import into your live site one.
I was lucky, my blog was new and I didn’t have a great deal of SEO worries – I simply set up a new installation of WordPress on one of my domains and used the built in importer in WordPress to import from Blogger (I originally had my blog there).
Would be happy to help out in any way I can in the process

I set up my blog on blogger and now regret it as there is the obvious trouble with hits from China, as has been mentioned above. I will be looking for my own hosting very soon.
I really love your blog, I am about 6 weeks into the learning process so far.

That’s a strange choice… i adopted from China in 2007 and have heard from 2006 to now (Dec 2009) about Blogger/Blogspot being notorious for inaccessibility from China. Most have said they could log in via their yahoo identity, then click their blog name from there, (ie getting in via the back door), but then could post but not view their blog. That might be something to live with if you are only there for 2 wks adopting, but certainly not an acceptable long term accessibility. Good luck! I have just found this site via lawaichinese.net and you seem to have a really great, handy blog. I am an elementary chinese student living in Canada.
